One thing that you didn’t know about me is that I’m a chronic procrastinator. Do you ever get those „this isn’t a project that you will be able to do the night before“ threats from your uni professors? Well, challenge accepted! There are those people who just GET THINGS DONE and then there’s us, but who says that we can’t become one of those people? So, one thing that I’m trying to get better at is to act fast and get things done as soon as they come in my way. Just to make things easier for myself really. And if all that sounds familiar to you then hopefully with this post I can motivate you to be more productive and I hope you’ll find these tips helpful.
Think like a productive person
I always think to myself, how can I be productive when I’m unmotivated and just don’t enjoy doing something? – Completely irrelevant. Productive people know that no matter how exciting or non-exciting a task is, it has to be done anyway. So you should always look at the tasks level of importance and then decide what you should get done first.
I swear lists are the only way I get things done. I find it really helpful to make a to do list the night before to keep me on track of the things I want to complete that day. Again, sort these things in order of importance, not preference! It’ll just help to organize your brain, manage your time and trust me, there’s nothing more satisfying than ticking off a to do list at the end of the day. Also, buying new cute planners and to do lists always motivates me to keep using them.
Tidy space, tidy mind
This might be just me but I find that when my surroundings are nice and tidy I can operate so much better. I try to keep my work space clean and very simple so I don’t get distracted and think „oh I might just tidy that up quick before I start writing this essay.“ Isn’t it funny how we all suddenly love tidying when we are procrastiating?
Get enough sleep
Now, there are a lot of people who get up at crazy o’clock to be more productive and just to have more hours in a day to get things done. It does make sense in a way but this tip certainly is not for everyone. My brain basically can’t function before 8AM and that’s totally fine. Get enough sleep, have some breakfast and start your day motivated and productively.
Unplug from social media
One of the main distractions for me is any kind of Social Media. Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat – there’s just always something new and far more interesting to look at. If you should need some extra help there’s also an App called SelfControl that helps you avoid these distracting websites. Just set a period of time to block for, add websites to your blacklist, and et voilá. You’re Social Media free.
