I thought I’d start this new series on the blog called „A Guide to Natural Facial Oils“ to share some of my favourite beautifying oils with you. I really got into the idea of nurturing my skin with oils instead of stripping every last bit of moisture out of it like I used to do. Ever since my skin started to change in my teenage years, I started this massive war against my skin. I used so many chemical products to get rid of my impurities. I basically bought every single product that says „reduces oils“ or „blackhead fighting formula“ out there and I’m sure we all did that mistake at some point! I’m not saying that all of these products did nothing to my skin, some of them actually helped a lot with my blackheads but never in the longer term, they always come back.
What I can surely say they do is drying out my skin in the worst way possible without me even recognizing it. There was actually a time when I completely skipped moisturizer for years just to stop my skin from getting greasy again, haha what a bloody idiot! So, when we strip our skin from its natural oils it tries to compensate by producing more oil, which is often blocked from being released by all the tight and dried up skin caused by these ever so great acne fighting products. I guess we all know what happens next, clogged pores, oily skin and pimples. We must also consider that chemicals can be absorbed through our skin right into the blood stream and that’s something we definitely don’t want. Long story short: Work with your skin not against it! Avocado Oil is a deeply penetrating oil that’s mainly providing the skin with moisture. It manages to get down to the deeper epidermis layers and helps to fix your dehydrated skin. Especially oily skin can be extremely dehydrated! Avocados are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. The antioxidants found in avocado oil (Vitamin A & E) work anti inflammatory and immune modulating, that’s why Avocado Oil helps to heal sun burns and age spots as well as blemishes and eczema.
What I use Avocado Oil for Avocado Oil is my favourite oil to use for the oil cleansing method. The basic idea of an oil cleanse is to use natural oils in specific combination, I use Castor Oil and Avocado Oil, to cleanse the skin and naturally balance the skin’s oils. When massaging your skin with the two oils of your choice it will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and found itself stuck in your pores. Once you’re done massaging the oils all over your face use really hot cloth and place it on your face for a few minutes. The steam will „open“ your pores, allowing the oil to be easily removed.
I do this every single day in the evenings instead of my usual cleansing routine and my skin seems to thank me for it, I can’t wait to see the long term results! It works also great as a makeup remover! I also use Avocado Oil as a moisturizer in the evening. What I love about this oil is that it completely sinks into the skin, when applying the right amount! I only use two drops and that’s enough for my whole face and neck.
I hope you found this post helpful, I seriously feel so good using oils on my skin and completely skipping my chemical cleansers. I just want my skin to look it’s best and if that’s the only way to achieve it then I’m happy to continue with this kind of skincare routine. Even though it’s completely different to my old routine. The next oils I’m going to review are Rosehip Oil, Castor Oil and Coconut Oil. Please let me know which one you’re the most interested in!
Oh and another quick tip, whenever you’re buying oil make sure it’s cold pressed because cold pressed oil is healthier than conventionally made oil because of the lack of heat and chemicals in the production process!
